“Sous les arbres” (Under the Trees) shows a figure reading while lying on a hillside, holding the book up, beneath a tree with red branches that leans over the figure.

Behind, a dense mass of brushstrokes in blue, violet, green and yellow forms the foliage, and small red marks seem to fall from the tree. On either side, other, thinner red branches can be seen.

The intense red of the branches contrasts with the navy blue of the hillside, and the figure, light-toned and tiny, sits at the center of the scene.

Pierre-Emmanuel Lyet depicts colorful atmospheres and ethereal backgrounds, blending patches of color. His work moves between the introspective, in soft tones, and the festive, in bright colors, always with a fluid, spontaneous expression.
