“Dracula” by Manuel Marsol shows a red-faced figure with hair shaped like flames holding a woman with long orange hair, her head thrown back. He wears a shaggy-looking black coat and stares with wide eyes, in a tense expression.
A yellow window framed by a black rectangle encloses the scene, and below it, on the black, the title is written in blue letters with red dots at the ends. Two small red marks can be seen on her neck.
The intense yellow of the background, the red and orange of the hair and skin, and the black of the frame and the coat create a very strong contrast. The line is direct, with visible brushstrokes and exaggerated proportions, as in an old film bill.
Manuel Marsol (Madrid, 1984) has become, in just a few years, an international reference in illustrated books.
