“Moby Dick Medusas” (Moby Dick Jellyfish) by Manuel Marsol offers an aerial view of a sea covered by thousands of greyish-blue jellyfish. A lighter area, made up of pale jellyfish, draws a large silhouette that makes its way among them, and at the lower right a wooden fishing boat with a cabin moves across the water.
The jellyfish repeat with slight variations in size and color, and their fine tentacles cross one another. In the background, a strip of turquoise sky closes the scene at the top.
The contrast between the pale patch and the dark blue of the rest creates a continuous visual rhythm, and the boat sets the scale of the whole.
This illustration is part of Manuel Marsol's images inspired by Moby Dick, Herman Melville's novel. Manuel Marsol (Madrid, 1984) has become, in just a few years, an international reference in illustrated books.
