Buenos Días Limited Edition Engraving

This print by Marina Anaya is a traditional intaglio print. It is a printing technique that has been used in the same way for more than 500 years.

Intaglio engraving:
The works are the result of manual stamping, using a press or die, of one or more metal plates on paper. On the metal plate, which is used as a matrix, the drawing is engraved with salts. The bas-reliefs on the engraved plate are filled with highly viscous ink. Excess ink is removed from the surface and the plate, with the paper on top, is passed through the press at high pressure. This transfers the ink from the spaces in the plate to the paper. The image is characterized by a tactile relief created by the combination of the deformation of the paper and a thick layer of ink. This process is repeated as many times as necessary to add the drawings, colors and textures required for the engraving. Finally, the number of engravings is stamped to complete the edition.
