“Wet Floor” by Brecht Evens shows four figures seen from behind, standing under a strip of light, in clothes with very different patterns: polka dots, checks, circles, dots and stripes. One of them holds a glass next to her face and another raises her arms behind her head.
On the left, a yellow wet-floor sign with the text “Attention glissant” explains the title, and the floor, drawn with tiles and colored lines, reflects the characters. Several faces peer out above the figures at the top.
An intense blue background makes the pinks, oranges, greens and yellows of the clothing stand out. The layering of planes and patterns, together with the reflections on the floor, gives the scene a collage-like feel full of rhythm.
This illustration is part of the graphic universe developed by Belgian artist Brecht Evens for his graphic novels. His best-known publications include The Wrong Place, The Making Of, Panther, The City of Belgium and The Jellyfish King.
